MEET THE TEAM
Kate Curran - Director & Manager
Kate brings 20 years of experience to her role at Denbrook. She began working part-time with horses at the age of 16 and moved into a full-time role with yearlings and broodmares at age 18 for Emerald Thoroughbreds.
Kate moved to the Hunter Valley in 2013 to take up a position at Vinery Stud which turned into 12 years of service. During these years at Vinery, Kate experienced all aspects of a commercial Thoroughbred Stud including but not limited to yearling & weanling prep, foaling 150+ mares each season, working in the covering shed with the stallions, assisting the resident vet & ended her time there as Assistant Stud Manager.
In 2016, Kate proudly received the HTBA Irish National Stud Scholarship and spent 6 months in Ireland learning the Northern Hemisphere Thoroughbred industry. She graduated the course receiving the Silver Medal award in recognition of her efforts. Upon returning to Australia, Kate became a qualified Equine Veterinary Nurse in 2017.
Denbrook has been a lifelong dream of Kate's and all residing horses become part of the family.
John & Lee Curran - Directors
Kate's parents - John & Lee - play an integral part behind the scenes at Denbrook whilst managing their own Thoroughbred stud & provide support and extra pairs of hands when needed!
John has been around horses all his life and was a very successful horse trainer in Dubbo & Gosford before moving into a stud managerial role. His knowledge of horses and the industry itself is an asset to the farm.
Lee was a schoolteacher by trade and married into the horse industry! She has great attention to detail and knows all the personalities and quirks of the horses on farm. Whilst Lee isn't as hands on with the horses themselves, she enjoys checking everyone over on feed run and can muck out a mean box! She is a fixture at the crush during breeding season and provides great help to the vets.
Judy Anshaw
Judy is a huge asset to Denbrook and provides casual assistance when needed, although she is an everyday fixture during breeding season! She brings a wealth of knowledge through experience with her own horses and is an accomplished Working Equitation rider. Judy has a calm demeanour when working with the horses and this certainly rubs off on our equine residents!
Helen Jeffery - Scone Equine Hospital Veterinarian
Helen is part of the veterinary team at the Denman practice of Scone Equine Hospital and provides exceptional care to all the horses on farm. She strives to achieve the best outcomes possible during breeding season and is based close to the farm to be on-call for any after hours emergencies.
Henry Leggett - Farrier
Henry started providing farrier services in 2025 and the horses feet have never looked better! He & Kate work closely together each year to make sure all foals receive the best start to life with their hoof care.
